Known as the 'Queen of Roads,' this was one of the earliest and most strategically important Roman roads. You can walk or cycle on original basalt paving stones that are over 2,000 years old. The path is lined with ancient cypress trees, crumbling tombs, and sprawling Roman villas. You will pass the entrance to several catacombs, including San Callisto and San Sebastiano. The vibe is hauntingly peaceful, offering a green escape from the city's traffic. On Sundays, the road is closed to most motorized vehicles, making it a paradise for pedestrians and cyclists. It’s a unique mix of nature, archaeology, and open-air museum that feels miles away from the modern city center.
