What we collect

BreadCrumbs is designed with privacy in mind. We do not require an account to use the service. When you interact with the map, we may collect:

  • Anonymous usage events (page views, map interactions) — only with your consent.
  • A one-way hash of your IP address, used solely to enforce rate limits. We cannot reverse this to identify you.
  • Your browser's user agent string, used for debugging.

What we don't collect

  • Your name, email address, or any contact information (unless you email us directly).
  • Your precise GPS location. The hotel pin you drop on the map is stored only in your browser's memory for that session.
  • Third-party advertising data. We have no ad network integrations.

Cookies and local storage

We use browser local storage (not traditional cookies) to remember your preferences: traveler type, bookmarks, and whether you've accepted the disclaimer. This data never leaves your device. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics (privacy-preserving, no fingerprinting) only after you give consent via the cookie banner.

Data sources

Traveler reports shown on the map are sourced from public forums (Reddit, TripAdvisor, government travel advisories). We attribute each report to its source and link back to the original. No private messages or non-public posts are used.
